Volunteer Opportunities
Area Agency on Aging

Many of the programs offered through the Area Agency on Aging rely on committed volunteers to make their programs successful and to meet the increasing need for services in our communities. Volunteers can truly make a difference in their community. Volunteers participate in training, orientation, and continuing education provided by the Area Agency on Aging.

Medicare/Benefits counseling volunteers provide individuals with personalized, objective assistance and education with Medicare and related public benefits. Call (928) 213-5235 or (928) 774-1895 extension 1183 in Flagstaff, or toll free at (877) 521-3500, or link to Elder Rights Program for more information about the program.

Ombudsman volunteers serve as advocates for people living in nursing homes and assisted living facilities and help residents to resolve problems they may encounter in their daily lives. Call (928) 213-5239 for Apache, Coconino, and Navajo counties, or (928) 649-6868 for Yavapai County, or link to Elder Rights Program for more information.

Legal volunteers serve as legal advocates for seniors and provide assistance in such areas as wills and probate, landlord-tenant issues, and federal and state benefit disputes. The volunteers are supervised by the Legal Advocacy Coordinator and are under the direction of the Supervising Attorney. Call (928) 213-5246 in Flagstaff or (928) 776-7871 in Prescott, or link to Elder Rights Program for more information.

NACOG's Area Agency on Aging recruits regularly and provides frequent trainings for volunteer positions with the Ombudsman, Legal Advocacy, and Medicare/Benefits Counseling and Education programs. Position descriptions are listed on the non-profit VolunteerMatch website. Please go to www.VolunteerMatch.org to view the Area Agency on Aging's current openings and position descriptions for Coconino, Yavapai, Apache, and Navajo Counties. You may also contact Jacqita Bailey, Volunteer Coordinator at 928-213-5215, Toll Free: 1-877-521-3500, or E-mail for additional information and to request an information packet be mailed to you.

Many senior centers also depend on the aid of volunteers to prepare and deliver meals, organize activities, and conduct fund raising campaigns. For more information on volunteering at a senior center, contact the center in your area.
