Program
Objectives
Each
year, the Arizona Department of Economic Security (ADES)
Population Statistics Unit is responsible for preparing population
estimates for each county, city, and town. These estimates rely
heavily on building permit data supplied to ADES by local
governments. NACOG is responsible for encouraging local
governments to to submit their data, in addition to coordinating
the regional review of draft estimates.
Population
projections for counties, cities, towns, and some unincorporated
areas are produced every five years by ADES. NACOG's role in this
process is to gather local input and comments on the draft
projections. Local input is important since the projections are
only updated every years. In addition, all agencies are required
to use official ADES projections for all planning activities.
As a State Data Center affiliate, NACOG is also a source for census data. Hard copies of 1970, 1980, and 1990 census data are available for use, and the 1990 data is also available on CD-ROM. Maps delineating census geography (tracts, block groups) are also available. The Census Bureau also has data available on-line at
www.census.gov.
