Program Objectives

In 1976, NACOG was designated the area-wide quality planning agency for northern Arizona and developed a regional Water Quality Management Plan as required under Section 208 of the Clean Water Act. This plan identified current and future wastewater treatment needs in the Region in 1979, and has since been amended several times. In 1993, NACOG completed a comprehensive revision to the 1979 plan.

NACOG maintains a 208 Water Quality Technical Review Committee which provides direction to NACOG staff and makes recommendations to the Regional Council (on amendments to the 208 Area Wide Water Quality Management Plan). NACOG is also 
a member of the State Water Quality Management Working Group that makes recommendations to the Director of ADEQ on amendments to area-wide water quality management plans.

Purpose
To develop, adopt, and maintain an area-wide water quality management plan that identifies municipal and industrial wastewater treatment needs for a twenty-year planning period; to prescribe programs that control non-point source pollution; to identify agencies necessary to carry out the plan.
